Moment 45 - 3:06PM
The summer of 2025 marked a new step in Nico’s exploration of capturing “moments.” This time, he chose to focus on wa- ter—on its depth, and on the silent truths it holds.
After two weeks of experimentation, he decided, on the very last day, to dive into the ocean and capture its essence. His in- tention was to create an image that draws the viewer inward, inviting a personal and contemplative journey.
Inspired by Nietzsche’s well-known reflection — “When you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you” — he chose black and white to reveal the intimate dialogue between the self and the vast unknown. The dark center of the piece becomes an invitation to look within. The abyss is no longer merely observed: it observes us in return. It reads us, just as we attempt to understand it.
The work may unsettle through the depth of its shadowed core. Yet, the luminous seabed — the sun’s rays tracing deli- cate veins across the sand — offers reassurance. It reminds us that we still stand, grounded, connected.
And above, the faint line of the surface opens like an exit. It is a threshold back to our familiar, earthly world — a breath, a choice: to contemplate, to descend, or to rise again.
